GOOSE CONTROL PROBLEMS?
Geese number in the MILLIONS (increasing at 30% a year) and leave:
- UNSIGHTLY MESS (at least a pound of droppings
per day per goose!)- CONTAMINATION from increased fecal coliform levels in ponds
- RAVAGED grass and property
- MONEY WASTED cleaning, reseeding, resodding,
and repairing
NOTE FROM OUR SCIENTIFIC TEAM:
A listener to these recordings will obviously recognize the familiar sounds of Canada geese -- yet each of these calls is different, and has a very specific meaning to the geese who hear it. The "alarm" call is by far the more urgent - this is actually very rarely used by the geese, as they are so vigilant that most threats do not get a chance to escalate to a sudden dire terror-emergency situation of the type which will produce this vocal response. Still, all Canada geese instantly recognize this call - you may hear the urgent note in it - and it signals IMMEDIATE danger. In order to survive, they dare not ignore this sound at their peril.
Dr. Whitford was extremely fortunate to capture this call on one single occasion during thousands of hours of recording geese under field conditions for his PhD studies into the vocalizations of Canada geese.
The other call is the "alert" call and its stronger variant, the "warning" call. As the name implies, this call type signals to other geese that there is something they had better look out for. The slightly stronger version of this call, the "warning call," is given by the dominant goose in a group once it has identified a threat as real. It tells the others that it is time to gather together and depart in an orderly fashion. Geese will not be comfortable or feel safe when they hear these calls. They will be nervous and unable to settle in an area where they are played, which is what makes these sounds useful in controlling loafing geese. However, this call type does not signal the absolute instant fright of the "alarm" call.
The GooseBuster unit uses all of these call types for natural variation and for greater realism. Together, these sounds suggest to geese that an area presents threats and dangers which make it a bad idea to stay there. The variety and fidelity of sound is important, as geese are highly sensitive in their hearing.
HOW TO CONTROL PROBLEM GEESE with GooseBuster Sonic Repeller?
Actual alert and alarm calls recorded in the wild. GooseBuster is the first and only geese control repeller to use actual alert and alarm calls of Canada geese, recorded under natural conditions. Geese recognize these calls and respond instinctively ( to 'alert' calls indicating uneasiness about potential danger and 'alarm' calls signifying immediate danger). Reacting to either, pests evacuate instantly, without waiting to identify the source.
Optional coyote barks and gunshots. Cutting edge research and development has allowed the inclusion of optional coyote and/or gunshot sounds. Read the complete press release.
Different calls in random combinations. GooseBuster geese control broadcasts its calls in random combinations. Calls differ in frequency, duration and intervals. Sound combinations, sequences and speaker selection change randomly, leading geese to perceive in many birds many locations.
23 years of research. GooseBuster is the tangible result of 23 years of research conducted by Dr. Philip Whitford, Professor of Biology at Capital University. Since 1979, Dr. Whitford has been studying Canada goose behavior and vocal communications, then presenting and publishing his findings. He holds a PhD in biological sciences in the field of animal behavior, and BS and MS degrees in wildlife management. On request, Dr. Whitford is available for consultation; please inquire.
INCREMENTAL HELP FROM NATURE. New arrivals leave abruptly in a panic, encouraging original residents to leave as well. GooseBuster causes other birds to exhibit their alarm calls, giving geese a greater sense of danger
SUCCESS IS IN THE DETAILS.TIMER - program sounds to coincide withPROGRAMMABLE - choose interval
arrival of geese
between calls
SPEAKER SEQUENCING - imitates natural
patterns of
1) a moving goose, looking around at
disturbances; and
2) several agitated geese
RANDOM PLAY - sounds are always
changing, preventing acclimation.
LONG TERM SOLUTION. Geese are stubborn and territorial, and return to the same place year after year. But GooseBuster geese control repeller uses this memory against them - once scared away repeatedly, they rarely return.
COVERAGE.
One unit: 5-7 acres.
EXTRA COVERAGE: Two units: 15-21 acres. Field tests show that a second unit increases coverage dramatically. This additive effect more than doubles the coverage (in fact it increases up to three times) reducing the per-acre cost significantly.
